Lennox Miller became the first great 100 metre sprinter from Jamaica and was one of the best sprinters in the world back in his ere in late 1960's and early 1970's. He was anchor man on a sprint relay team of University of Southern California that set a world record of 38.6 seconds in 1967.
In 1968 Olympic games in Mexico City, he recorded a time of 10.04s in the 100m century to win the Silver medal behind Jim Hines who broke the 10-seconds barrier for the first time with 9.95s in a legal condition in history.
In 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he captures the bronze medal in the 100 finals with 10.33s won by Valery Borzov of Russia in 10.14s.
His daughter, Inger Miller, also became a renowned sprinter, and competed for the United States at the Olympics.He and Inger are the first father-daughter to win Olympic track and field medals. He was her coach prior to her winning gold in the 1996 Summer Olympics. Both ran for the University of Southern California, where Miller earned a degree in psychology and graduated from the dental school. He had been a dentist in Pasadena for 30 years.
