HALL OF FAME: EDWIN MOSES
In 1976, Edwin Moses was a 20-year-old engineering student at Morehouse College, a school without a track and which he entered with an academic scholarship rather than an athletics scholarship.
The Montreal Olympics was his first international competition. Despite his inexperience, Moses won the 400m hurdles by eight metres, the largest margin of victory in the event's history. He also broke the world record.
Moses was the highly prospect to win gold at the 1980 Olympics. However he missed the Moscow Games because of the U.S. boycott.
Nevertheless he returned to the Olympics in 1984 and won a second gold medal.
Between september 1977 and June 1987, Moses won 122 consecutive races including 107 finals in meets that took him to 22 different countries.
In 1988, Moses competed at the Seoul Olympics and earned a bronze medal at age of 33.
Since his retirement. Moses has been active in the struggle against the use of performances-enhancing drugs.
